Sitting above the community of Claremont, Ca is the 5,700 foot summit of Sunset Peak. From a distance, it is recognizable by it’s many radio antenna sitting near the top. The nearly 8 mile hike to the peak is fairly accessible to those of many levels of experience as the trail follows along a well maintained dirt road. Make the drive out of Baldy Village up Glendora Ridge Road to a wide spot in the road where the dirt road starts. (Just see this Google Maps link, it will make sense). Starting your hike will take you gradually up to the top on the dirt road where you will find the last section up a steep path to the summit. The top of Sunset Peak will give you views of the LA basin, Inland Empire, Mt. Baldy, and Cow Canyon. On a clear day with no haze, you may even see the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island.
